Needful Things

Roundabout the same festive season again, a year on, and is the resolve thinning already? A spacious afternoon is perfect for dreaming up new ways of spinning wheels; of importing tried and tested frameworks of terror into a bland, solipsist landscape.

For we are all needful, in the things that we fail to share
A moment's epiphany, a lifetime to prepare
And yet some never get there

Lovers

Recently heard melodies, such as the nifty yet overwhelming duet between David Tao and Jolin, coupled with the blissful matrimony of a friend, nearly threatened to eviscerate the forlorn notions I held about undertaking such undying vows of love. Who are we, after all, that we deign to comprehend and master the burdens of eternity; that we seize a fellow creature and gallop upon undulating fields, memorizing scrolls of mortal formulae, the tenderness of our awareness blinding us towards secret cliffs? Perhaps the sculpture of our destiny eventually become too colossal for our carving knifes. But the wedding bell jingles, the smooth riff of a jazz guitar ushers in the adventurous ones, the alluring melodies dazzle my convictions, and I removed the shield from the soft spots of my heart. Valour abandoned leaves the victor none too pleased, while the ravaged give thanks for the carnage upon which he may further contemplate. Even then, I remain oblivious to fate, carefully preserving memories of beautiful gems along the way.
